What does MERV mean?
MERV stands for Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value. It is a numerical system for comparing filters based on minimum particle size efficiency. A MERV of 1 is least efficient; a 16 is the most efficient. A filter for your home should be rated between MERV 7 & MERV 11 in most cases.

How often should I change my furnace filter?
This is often a difficult subject to address because every home is different. Our recommendation is that you should change your furnace filter every 1 to 4 months. This number depends on a number of factors; pets being the most important. In addition, changing your filter frequently can save you money on your electric bill because your furnace will not be working as hard to push air through a clogged filter.

**Pets - If you have any pets in your home, it is essential to change your filter frequently to minimize dust, dander, pet hair and germs. By changing your filter monthly, you will eliminate the chance for harmful bacteria to grow inside your furnace.

Which type of filter is best for me?
Because every home is different, the same filter may not work for everyone, nor be necessary for everyone. Generally, homes with less activity (no pets or children) do not require the best filters we offer. Usually the Series 400 Standard Capacity should meet the needs of less active homes. On the other hand, more active homes with pets and children should use a higher efficiency filter or change their filter frequently. For these homes the Series 1100 is adequate or the Series 400 Standard Capacity or High Capacity will work if they are changed every 1-2 months.

How do I change my furnace filter?
Every furnace is different; however, there should be a sticker located on the door where the filter belongs. The best thing to do is to refer to the owner’s manual which can tell you exactly what to do on your specific model. One thing to always remember on any unit is to make sure the power is turned off before attempting to change the filter.
